Bridge Velké Meziříčí

Velké Meziříčí has a unique series of stone viaducts set in the striking foothill landscape just above the town. For this competition, we designed a viaduct that will complement this series; it will connect the landscape park with the town via a footbridge and can also contribute to the development of the industrial district beneath the bridge by providing it with a landmark and a connection to the landscape above the town. The bridge will remain beautiful for decades to come and will function harmoniously within the natural context of the slopes and the vibrant city below its arches.

The proposed bridge structure embodies the essence of an arch bridge in both the landscape and the city. The archetype of the arched viaduct is lightened and abstracted to the limits of structural possibilities. The structure is designed with expansion joints to allow for a continuous track. No bearings, minimal maintenance, durability, harmony of form. Compression-resistant concrete. A footbridge connecting cycling and walking routes.
